Hampshire is a county that is full of hidden gems just waiting to be discovered and explored.... Try these for starters:
Beaulieu is most famous for its motor museum, but it's worth visiting the amazing ruined abbey which houses an exhibition of monastic life. People travel from all over to visit Beaulieu's Auto Jumble which is held twice a year. A couple of miles away is the stunning historic village of Buckler's Hard where a number of Nelson's warships were built and sailed down the river to the coast.
Cricket-lovers will be bowled over by the village of Hambledon nestled at the foot of the South Downs in east Hampshire. This was the birthplace of cricket, and is still home to the Bat & Ball pub that once served as the world's first cricket club house. Nearby is Selborne - a beautiful village, where naturalist, Gilbert White's House & Captain Oates (Antarctic explorer) Museum and Memorial can be found and also Chawton, home to Jane Austen.
Gateway to the South East ...
you'll find just the place...
If you're still looking for more Southampton International Airport is the gateway to the South East. An hour's takes you along the coast to Chichester and Arundel and the countryside of Sussex or take the train to Southampton or Portsmouth to catch the ferry to the Isle of Wight. Going north west an hour takes you to the dreaming spires of Oxford. Go to www.visitsoutheastengland.com/2ofus for information on the quirky and unusual places in South East England.
