The Gurkha Museum

The Gurkha Museum has somethimg to interest people of all ages and is very suitable for a family outing. Besides tableaux, dioramas and showcases it has visual and voice descriptions of the history of Gurkha regiments and a display commemorating the winners of 26 Victoria Crosses. There is also a shop well stocked with things which relate to the gurkhas and Nepal.

The Gurkha Museum commemorates the services of Gurkhas to the British since 1815. The story starts with a view of the gurkha and Nepal, his homeland, before the visitor is taken through the main chapters of gurkha military history from 1815 to the present day.

Open: Monday-Saturday 10am-5pm. Sunday 12-4pm. Admission: Adult £2, Child/senior citizen £1. Servicemen free entry. Special rates available for groups.

Road Directions

From the M3 south leave the motorway at Junction 10, (Bar End) and follow the signs for central Winchester. Follow the one way system to the top of the High Street where it becomes Romsey Road. Peninsula Barracks 200yds on the left as you go up Romsey Road
